  • Prof. Gabriele Anderst-Kotsis has been recognized by ACM as Distinguished Scientist for her contributions and impacts in the field of computing (2014)
  • Prof. Gerhard Widmer and Prof. Jürgen Knoblich received the Wittgenstein Prize, which is the highest academic recognition in Austria (2009).
  • Dr. Roberto Lopez Herrejon was named Marie Currie Fellow and awarded the EU Inter-European Fellowship grant
  • Prof. Alexander Egyed was named Visiting Professor at the University College London (UCL), one of the world leading universities.
  • Prof. Gerhard Widmer is elected into the "Junge Kurie" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2008).
  • Prof. Alexander Egyed was ranked 10th Best Scholar in Software Engineering by Ren/Taylor [1] (2007).

  • Prof. Roland Wagner received the Silver Medal of the Upper Austrian Government (2011).
  • Prof Klaus Miesenberger received the Fred Strache Leadership Award acknowledging exceptional leadership in der field of disability and technology, California State University Northridge (2010).
  • Prof. Roland Wagner was awarded with the "Humanity Medal" of the Upper Austrian Government (2003).
  • Prof. Roland Wagner received the "Madeili CBUT I. Stupne" of the Technical University Prague (2002).

Rankings

  • Microsoft Academic Search ranks the JKU among the Top 50 Research Institutions in Software Engineering. This ranking is adjusted weekly. Noteworthy is that the JKU shares its Microsoft "Field Rating" with such esteemed institutions such as MIT, Stanford, or ETH Zürich.
  • FORMAT (Jan 20, 2014): JKU Master's program in Software Engineering ranked the Best Computer Science Program in Austria and the Top 3 Austrian Engineering programs (see article and table; in German)

Industrial Recognitions

  • Prof. Alexander Egyed was named IBM Research Faculty Fellow by IBM Rational, Canada.
  • The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Automated Software Engineering and its partner BMD Systemhaus won the Rudolf Trauner Award for SMEs (2007).

Service Awards

  • Prof. Gabriele Kotsis received the @WAS Decennial Award in recognition of her outstanding scientific, didactic and organisational contributions to the @WAS organisation and iiWAS and MoMM conferences series in 2009.
  • Prof. Alexander Egyed received the ACM Recognition of Service Award (2007) for serving as Program Chair of the 22nd IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering.
  • Prof. Paul Grünbacher received the ACM Recognition of Service Award (2004) for serving as General Chair of the 19th IEEE International Conference on Automated Software Engineering.

  • The two Master's Thesis Awards 2017 of the Austrian Computer Society both went to JKU: Andreas Grimmer and Christian Humer.
  • Alexander Melzer (Institute of Signal Processing) won the Infineon Innovation Award 2017 in the category "PhD-Thesis".
  • Martin Hengstberger won the Adolf-Adam-Informatikpreis 2016 award for the best Master's thesis in 2016.
  • Alexander Melzer (Institute of Signal Processing) received the Young Scientist Award of Excellence at the U.R.S.I. Kleinheubacher Conference 2015.
  • Stefan Neumüller (Institute of Computational Perception) won the JKU Adolf-Adam-Informatikpreis 2015 for his master's thesis.
  • Benoit Daloze won the Ruby Prize 2015, which was presented to him by the Ruby designer Yukihiro Matsumoto at the RubyWorld conference (see picture).
  • Hannes Bachmayr (Institute of System Software) won the JKU Adolf-Adam-Informatikpreis 2014 for his master's thesis.
  • Dr. Günter Klambauer (Institute of Bioinformatics) received the Award of Excellence of the Austrian Federal Ministery of Science, Research and Economy for his Ph.D. thesis "Machine Learning Techniques for the Analysis of High Throughput DNA and RNA Sequencing Data" (Dec. 2014).

  • Andreas Wöß (Institute for System Software) won the JKU Adolf-Adam-Informatikpreis 2013 for his master's thesis.
  • Dr. Thomas Würthinger (Institute for System Software) received the Heinz Zemanek Award 2012 of the Austrian Computer Society for his dissertation on Dynamic Code Evolution.
